1. Scatter DE Spill Kit generously over the entire spill — ensure full coverage beyond the spill edges
2. Allow 5–15 minutes for full absorption — the DE will visibly darken as it absorbs the liquid
3. For thick or deep spills apply a second layer over the top and leave for a further 5 minutes
4. Sweep or shovel up the absorbed material into a heavy duty bag
5. Dispose of according to local environmental regulations for the absorbed substance
6. For any remaining residue — apply a final light scatter, leave briefly, then sweep clean

Amount: One 4kg bag covers approximately 2–3 square metres of light spill. Apply more generously for heavy or deep spills.

BBQ drip trays: Line your BBQ drip tray with a layer of DE before cooking to absorb dripping fats and oils during cooking. This reduces flare-ups, smoke, and makes cleaning significantly easier. Replace after each use.

Amount: 2–3 tablespoons per BBQ drip tray. Generous scatter for floor spills.

1. Assess the spill and ensure the area is safe to enter — follow standard workplace spill procedures
2. Wear appropriate PPE for the substance spilled — gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection as required for the chemical involved
3. Scatter DE generously over the spill starting from the outer edges and working inward to contain the spread
4. Allow full absorption time — this varies by substance and viscosity
5. Collect absorbed material using appropriate tools and dispose of according to local regulations for the specific chemical absorbed
6. The DE itself is non-hazardous — disposal requirements are governed by the absorbed substance

Amount: Apply generously — for chemical spills always use more rather than less

1. Pull the vehicle safely off the road or away from the immediate work area
2. Pour DE directly from the bag onto the spill — the resealable bag allows controlled pouring
3. Use the whole bag if necessary — better to over-apply than under-apply on a roadside spill
4. Allow 10–15 minutes absorption time
5. Sweep up using a broom or brush — a small folding broom stored with the bag makes field clean-up easy
6. Bag the absorbed material for proper disposal
7. Reseal the DE bag after use if product remains

Suitable for: engine oil, diesel, hydraulic fluid, coolant, and general machinery fluid spills

Amount: One 4kg bag handles most roadside vehicle fluid spills

Dairy sheds: Scatter on milk spills, chemical cleaning solution spills, and general floor moisture. DE absorbs rapidly and leaves the floor dry and safe to walk on.

Fuel and oil spills near livestock: DE is safe to use near animals — no chemical residue or fumes that could harm livestock or contaminate feed.

Animal waste and effluent: Apply to liquid waste spills in yards, sheds, and laneways to absorb moisture rapidly and reduce odour and fly activity.

Machinery maintenance areas: Apply around tractors, harvesters, and other farm machinery where hydraulic and oil leaks are common.

Chemical storage areas: Keep a bag near chemical storage for immediate spill response.

Amount: Apply generously — for large farm spills multiple bags may be required

Motor oil and grease on garage floor:
1. Pour DE over the spill
2. Work into the spill with a broom
3. Leave for 15–30 minutes
4. Sweep up — the floor will be dry and clean

Old set oil stains: Apply a generous layer of DE to old dried oil stains, lightly dampen with a small amount of water, leave for 30 minutes, then scrub and sweep. Repeat for stubborn stains.

Paint and primer spills: Apply DE immediately before the paint dries — absorbs water and oil-based paints effectively.

General workshop spills: DE handles most workshop fluid spills including cutting fluid, rust remover, lubricants, and cleaning solvents.

Amount: One 4kg bag is a full season’s supply for most home workshops

Grade: 2–4mm or 4–8mm coarse grade — optimised for maximum absorption and easy sweeping

Resealable bag — keep the product dry and effective between uses. Store in a cool dry location.

Shelf life: Indefinite when stored dry — DE does not degrade or expire

Industrial chemicals: Dispose of according to local environmental regulations for the specific substance absorbed and follow your workplace’s chemical waste disposal procedures.

Agricultural use (animal waste, milk): Absorbed DE from agricultural spills can generally be composted or spread on non-crop land — check local regulations.

The DE mineral itself is inert and non-hazardous — always classify disposal by the absorbed substance, not by the DE.
